It's All For The Kids
The University Store is doing whatever it can ‘For The Kids’ (or, FTK, as CowboyThon refers to it). The University Store recently donated a portion of its proceeds from the popular “Man, Myth, Mullet” T-shirts to CowboyThon, a local student organization, to help raise money for children across Oklahoma.
The University Store sold 720 of the shirts, featuring Oklahoma State University head football coach, Mike Gundy’s, now-famous mullet. CowboyThon created the design for the shirt. After a member of the committee drew the design, CowboyThon presented it to the University Store, and the partnership was created. The “Man, Myth, Mullet” shirt sales raised $2,253 for the cause.
CowboyThon, the largest student organization at OSU, is an annual 12-hour dance marathon that engages the Cowboy Family in generating awareness and financial support for the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital Foundation. Last year, CowboyThon raised $161,000, bringing the total fundraising efforts to $593,000. The student committee is working hard this year to raise as much as possible for children in need, including implementing unique new ways to increase donations.
Ashleigh Rauner, public relations director, is happy the University Store and CowboyThon paired for this unique fundraiser.“Our organization is beyond thankful to come together with the University Store,” Rauner said. “This partnership aligns perfectly with CowboyThon’s fundraising process, which is all about finding creative ways to involve the Cowboy family in our cause.”
When approached with the idea last fall, Lance Hinkle, director of retail operations at the University Store, was thrilled to create such a meaningful partnership.
“The opportunity to donate a portion of the proceeds from one of our most popular shirts last semester was truly a pleasure,” Hinkle said. “The University Store is dedicated to OSU and its students first and foremost, and I can’t think of a better way to achieve that goal than supporting an organization like CowboyThon. Plus, being able to donate those proceeds to such a great cause makes it all the better.”
The University Store goes beyond the classroom. When customers shop at the University Store, 100 percent of the purchases benefit Oklahoma State University and its students. Oklahoma State University owns and operates the store and every purchase made in the University Store stays on campus to fund student programs and services, helping to keep student fees to a minimum.
